Going to Malta

I’m planning a trip to Malta in July. Interestingly, according to the CIA Worldbook the president is named Eddie, the locals are “descendants of ancient Carthaginians and Phoenicians,” and “major resources are limestone, a favorable geographic location, and a productive labor force.” I wonder if this is a country with a strong GTD followership — how else to explain the high productivity?
